A WIDE VARIETY OF MATERIALS

There are numerous factors that determine the correct use of a gasket, and just as many are the characteristics necessary to ensure that they perform their function in the best possible way.
The choice of material, the operating temperature (be it high or low), the pressure, the type of component with which they come into contact (gas, acid, oil, fuel, etc.), the mechanical load, the correct dimensions.

EXPANDED RUBBERS

The expanded rubber can be open, semi-closed or closed cells, it is often used, because it allows easy compression and return.

Closed and semi-closed cells are mainly used to create seals to liquids, dust and air, but also to absorb and protect against impacts. They are mainly used in the automotive, food, vacuuming, filtration, industrial, engineering and railway sectors. Neoprene (CR), silicone, EPDM and NBR belongs to the category.

Open cell rubber (NR natural rubber) is used almost exclusively for the construction of labeling machines, conveyor belts, paint rollers and construction of suction cups.

COMPACT RUBBERS

The compact rubber is one of the components most used for the manufacture of gaskets.

Solid and difficult to compress, it is mainly used in the automotive, engineering, building, petrochemical, industrial vaccuming and filtration sectors, because it is resistant to oils and fuels, to the heat, in contact with solvents and acids, but also at high and low temperatures, based on the different characteristics of the polymer used.

The compounds usually used are in CR (neoprene), VMQ (silicone), NBR (oil-proof rubber), SBR, EPDM, FPM (Viton), NR (natural rubber) and some of these can be coupled with cloths to increase the capacity of breaking strenght.

EXPANDED PLASTICS MATERIALS

are synthetic foams that can be open or closed cells. One of these is the polyurethane foam,

with open cells, available in different densities, with a surface that can be worked smooth, convoluted or pyramidal can be coupled with lead sheets or with elastomeric plates, the versions can be self-extinguishing and not, and can be based on polyether or polyester. Its use is widespread in the soundproofing sector, machine tool compressor compartments, in support of noisy machines, and punched in the required shape and size, and there is a version for filtering air, dust or dust. water, with calibrated porosity.

Polyethylene or polythene, on the other hand, is a foam,

that can generally be physically or chemically cross-linked, with closed cells, soft and elastic, with minimal water and vapor permeability, with excellent shock absorption, resistance to atmospheric agents and good thermal insulation.

It is used mainly in the automotive, air conditioning, packaging, nautical sectors, in the form of panels or custom-sized seals. There is a non-crosslinked version, used almost exclusively in the packaging sector.

Another important material is the expanded PVC,

mostly used with closed cells which has characteristics of softness, adaptability to different surfaces, high resistance to aging and UV rays, can have a slow and / or fast return, depending on the type, according to the required use. It is used in the automotive, door and window frames, nautical, lighting, and air conditioning sectors.

Another polymer is melamine,

an open cell sound-absorbing product, with high characteristics of sound absorption, heat absorption and reaction to fire.

THE COMPACT PLASTICS MATERIALS

are semi-finished products that come in the form of slab, bars, rods, tubes and profiles. The slabs and rods can be transformed into custom-designed seals, by mechanical processing or die cutting.

Thanks to their remarkable characteristics, semi-finished, processed and non-processed products are used in the most varied sectors, such as engineering, petrochemical, food, railway, aeronautics etc. The main features range from anti-corrosion to excellent physical-mechanical properties.

Other specific characteristics depend on the type of material used.

We can summarize the most popular materials in this category in the following polymers, PTFE, PE, PP, PVC, PUMPS, ABS, PET, Polyurethane with high breaking load.

FIBERS, PAPERS AND SPECIAL SEALS

Different types of fibers are used for the production of our product range.

The vulcanized fiber,

comes from pure cotton cellulose, suitable for different applications and fields, is used as an insulator for cracks on electric motors, for mechanical and insulating supports, self-lubricating sliding guides, silent gears and for explosive or flammable environments. Very stable from the dimensional point of view, vulcanized fiber is not attacked by oil, fat and acids, being hygroscopic material, therefore deformable in water.

The fibers also include a range of products commonly known as asbestos free, among them we find the aramid fibers bonded with NBR rubber, the cellulosic fibers bonded with SBR rubber or NBR and carbon and graphite fibers bonded with NBR rubber.

The distinction between the three materials described above, is determined by the different heat resistance, operating pressure and contact substances. They are usually indicated for water, solvents, steam, organic and inorganic chemical products, refrigerants and gas.

The cellulosic fibers impregnated with plasticized gelatins,

ideal for crankcase tightness, carburetors, petrol pumps, oil pumps, closing covers, thermostats and cooling water pumps, transmission units, steering boxes, gearboxes, differentials etc. The material can withstand a maximum operating temperature of 120° C.

In the range of paper products there is also an asbestos-free insulating cardboard and refractory ceramic fibers, composed of inorganic fibers with modest quantities of organic bonds, which can reach temperatures of 850° C or 1100° C, mainly used in thermal insulation at high temperatures.

There are some materials that we can include in the classification of special seals, one of these is the cork-rubber,

composed of grains of cork and rubber linked with polymeric-type processes, whose optimal functionality derives from the correct balance between the cork and the selected rubbers. It is mainly used in the footwear, plant engineering, electromechanical industry and in the motor sectors.

Another material we take into consideration is bidirectional PTFE,

which combines excellent chemical resistance with very high sealing qualities, developed for processes ranging from cryogenic temperatures to + 260° C (500° F). It is generally used in the food, chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries.

ADHESIVE

The double-sided positioning tapes applied on the materials we process can be essentially divided into:

Transfer, made up of polythenated paper and coated adhesive. This type of double-sided tape is used for the value for money, and recommended for uneven surfaces.

Screened, composed of polythenated paper, coated adhesive, backing with net.

TNT, composed of polythenated paper, coated adhesive, non-woven backing.

Both the double-sided adhesive tape and the TNT double-sided adhesive are used to prevent the stretching of the material on which they are applied during positioning

It’s the same for PET, composed of polythene paper, coated adhesive, polyester support, which also has the characteristic of preventing more effectively the transmigration of plasticizers from the product on which is applied, thus avoiding affecting the function of the adhesive on the final support.

To these must be added the possibility of applying acrylic and heat-activated foams to products of our production.
